    The Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Thriving Communities Grantmaking Program (EJ TCGM) provides $600 million in pass-through funding for regional and national Grantmakers to issue thousands of subgrants to community-based nonprofits, local governments, and Tribes for assessment, planning, and project development activities. Grantmaker applications are now open. Application deadlines vary based on Regional and National Grantmakers.

  • DOE: Energy Improvements in Rural or Remote Areas Program

    The Department of Energy’s (DOE) Energy Improvements in Rural or Remote Areas (ERA) Program gives communities with 10,000 or fewer people the tools and resources they need to improve the resilience, reliability, and affordability of their local energy systems. These community-drive projects enable residents to make the right decisions about their own energy, economic, cultural, and geographic needs.

    The DOE’s Office of Community Clean Energy Demonstrations (OCED) issued a Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) to fund up to $400 million for clean energy projects in rural and remote areas across the nation. Concept papers are due by February 27, 2025, and full applications are due by August 28, 2025.

  • FEMA: 2024 Flood Mitigation Assistance Grant Program

    The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) will make $600 million available for the Flood Mitigation Assistance grant program for fiscal year (FY) 2024 to reduce the risk of repetitive flood damage to buildings insured by the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP). The application cycle has three funding priorities: capacity and capability building (C&CB) activities, localized flood risk reduction projects, and individual flood mitigation projects. Applications are now open. Application deadline is April 18, 2025, 3PM ET.

  • FEMA: 2024 Building Resilient Infrastructure and Communities Grant Program

    The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) will make $750 million available for the Building Resilient Infrastructure and Communities (BRIC) grant program to states, local, communities, tribes, and territories for hazard mitigation activities. Eligible activities and funding priorities include capacity and capability building (C&CB) activities, hazard mitigation projects, building code adoption and enforcement, and management costs. Applications are now open. Application deadline is April 18, 2025, 3PM ET.

    FEMA made several changes and updates to the FY 2024 funding opportunity to increase access to funding and reduce complexity. These include:

    • Funding Cap Per Applicant
    • Removal of $400,000 Minimum Spend Requirement for Community Disaster Resilience Zones
    • Project Scoping Sub applications in National Competition
    • Removal of Hazard Mitigation Plan Requirement for Project ScopingSub-applications

  • DOE: Energy Technology Deployment on Tribal Lands

    The Department of Energy (DOE) Office of Indian Energy intends to issue a Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) for a grant entitled “Energy Technology Deployment on Tribal Lands – 2025” in spring 2025. This grant is for Tribes, including Alaska Native Regional Corporations and Village Corporations, Intertribal Organizations, and Tribal Energy Development Organizations to:

    • Install energy generating system(s) and/or energy efficiency measure(s) for Tribal Building(s) (Area of Interest 1); or,
    • Deploy community-scale energy generating system(s) or energy storage on Tribal Lands (Area of Interest 2); or,
    • Install integrated energy system(s) for autonomous operation (independent of the traditional centralized electric power grid) to power a single or multiple Essential Tribal Buildings during emergency situations or for tribal community resilience (Area of Interest 3); or,
    • Power unelectrified Tribal Buildings (Area of Interest Area 4).
